USB Type-C Compliance Test

TLC voyager m310c18 August 2016 – Teledyne LeCroy announced the release of the USB Type-C Compliance Suite for the Voyager M310C SuperSpeed USB 3.1 protocol verification platform. Based on USB-IF's USB Type-C Functional Verification Specification, this automated test suite allows developers to verify the logical USB Type-C port operation and verify compliance to the verification specification for devices utilizing the USB Type-C interface.

Integrated in Teledyne LeCroy's flagship Voyager M310C USB 3.1 test platform, the USB Type-C Compliance Suite utilizes emulation scripts to mimic USB Type-C port behaviors. The test platform communicates with the device-under-test (DUT) using standard USB Type-C cabling. This allows easy connection to devices that incorporate USB Type-C receptacles or USB Type-C captive-cable plugs. A single click will initiate the test suite and generate pass/fail reports to provide a fully automated test suite for USB Type-C protocol.

"Test vendors like Teledyne LeCroy play an important role in enabling developers to prepare for participation in the USB-IF Compliance Program to help assure that consumers enjoy a consistent and positive experience when using USB Type-C devices."

"The USB Type-C Functional Compliance Suite introduces some of the most demanding test cases ever conceived for a USB device," said Joe Mendolia, Vice-President of Marketing at Teledyne LeCroy's Protocol Solutions Group. "Each individual USB Type-C test requires numerous state transitions which, in many cases, can only be observed through precise voltage, timing and protocol measurements on the Configuration Channel (CC) pins. Empirically detecting these state changes without impacting the DUT behavior adds significant complexity to the USB Type-C test suite."

Built on the same open architecture as Teledyne LeCroy's USB 3.1 Link Layer and USB Power Delivery Compliance suite, the USB Type-C functional test suite includes full source code for all test cases. This provides developers with a comprehensive library of test scripts that can be easily re-purposed for custom test development. The USB Type-C Compliance Suite addresses Source, Sink, DRP behaviors as well as power states on VBUS and VCONN. As the test specifications are updated for USB Type-C, any software updates will be provided at no cost to PD Compliance Suite end-users.

"The release of the new USB Type-C Compliance Suite fills a critical role at the USB-IF Compliance Workshops because it expands the coverage for specific test cases that require both USB traffic and USB Type-C logical state changes," said Mike Micheletti, USB Product Manager at Teledyne LeCroy's Protocol Solutions Group. "Simultaneously generating USB 3.1 Gen-2 traffic while initiating logical USB Type-C state transitions and role swap events really showcases the flexibility of the Voyager M310C for end-to-end USB Type-C testing."

Passing the USB Type-C Functional Verification Test specification is now considered a requirement for USB Type-C devices seeking logo certification. USB Protocol Suite Version 7.35 is also now released for the Voyager M310C system and adds support for several USB Power Delivery 3.0 enhancements.
