OTA Testing per 3GPP TR 38.810

30 June 2021 – Eurofins, an international group consisting of more than 800 test laboratories, invested in a AMS-5705 Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) from ETS-Lindgren to perform over-the-air (OTA) radiated performance measurements for 5G New Radio (5GNR) devices in the FR2 frequency range of 24 GHz to 42 GHz. Eurofins complements its existing chambers previously provided by ETS-Lindgren and used for testing 5GNR wireless devices over the FR1 frequency range of 8 GHz and below. Now, with FR1 and FR2 test capabilities, Eurofins offers a wide range of 5GNR wireless test services to its customers.

The software is instrumentation brand-agnostic, providing Eurofins with the flexibility to use existing instruments as well as those that may be purchased in the future. As a further convenience, the CATR sits on wheels and can be moved easily from one lab area to another."

EMQuest EMQ-100 offers a wide range of fully parameterized test methods for measuring basic antenna performance metrics, as well as for testing both radiated and conducted performance of various wireless devices. Flexible in its design, EMQuest EMQ-100 can be used to analyze antennas in stand-alone applications or to test an embedded antenna system and radio module against any of the industry standard OTA radiated performance test requirements.

ETS-Lindgren provided a turn-key system consisting of the RF shielded enclosure, absorber, positioner, compact range reflector, laser alignment system, LED lights, and range calibration kits. For the 3GPP TR 38.810 measurements from 24 GHz to 42 GHz, the kits included standard gain horn antennas and antenna mounts for the multi-axis positioning systems. ETS-Lindgren's integration and training services enabled Eurofins to maximize their test capabilities shortly after receipt of their chamber. Quiet zone performance validation per the procedures in 3GPP TR 38.810 at 24.25 GHz, 32 GHz, and 40 GHz assured Eurofins of a high-quality test environment. ETS-Lindgren has upgraded several existing FR1 OTA test systems for 5GNR as well as designed and installed new FR2 systems with quiet zones as large as 1.5 m for mmWave bands.
