Accurate Milliohm Measurements with Temperature Compensation

BKP 284111 September 2017 - B&K Precision announced its first series of DC resistance meters, models 2840 and 2841, designed to accurately measure resistance in the milliohm range. The 2840 model’s measurement range is 1 μΩ to 20 kΩ with a basic accuracy of 0.1%, while the 2841 model’s measurement range is 0.1 μΩ to 100 MΩ, with a basic accuracy of 0.01%, and also features temperature compensation. Both meters are ideally suited for measuring contact resistance of relays, switches, and PCB traces with greater accuracy and resolution than typical multi meters.

Bench DC resistance meters are used in R&D and on production lines where measurement accuracy and resolution in the milliohm range are required. Both meters feature low power resistance testing (LPR) modes and variable measurement speeds that are suited for a wide range of applications. The handler interface with high-speed measurement capabilities enable the 2840 Series to evaluate a large quantity of components and be integrated into an automated test system.

Each model features a touch screen, one-touch zoom, and pass/fail binning for ease-of-use when evaluating components. The front panel provides intuitive menu navigation and a 4-terminal input for accurate Kelvin measurements. The DC resistance meters also features discrete and auto ranging measurements for comparator, binning, and statistical displays.

The 2841 model adds extended range, accuracy, temperature measurement and functions. Measure low resistivity materials with offset voltage compensation to reduce the influence of thermal EMF. Cable error detection displays a message when one of the terminals is open, which helps identify defective test leads or poor contact that can cause unreliable measurements.

Control the series with SCPI and instrument specific commands over standard USB and RS232 interfaces for remote PC connectivity. The 2841 extends the remote control capabilities with a LAN interface and features a built-in webserver.

Available immediately, B&K Precision's 2840 and 2841 DC resistance meters are backed by a 3-year warranty and listed at $549 and $1,495 respectively.
