Liquid-cooled high-power Broadband Amplifiers for EMC Test

14 March 2014 - Rohde & Schwarz now offers up to 10 kW of power in a frequency range from 9 kHz to 225 MHz with its R&S BBL200 amplifier family. Thanks to a new liquid cooling system, these models are quieter and more compact than ever before. The high output power of the R&S BBL200 amplifier family makes these models ideal for EMS tests where high field strengths are required. They are particularly suitable for EMC tests in the automotive, aerospace and defense sectors in line with standards such as MIL STD 461F, DO 160F, ISO 11451, ISO 11452.

High 1 dB compression power and outstanding VSWR immunity ensure sufficient amplifier performance for typical EMC test application requirements. The amplifier can be operated using the display and buttons directly on the instrument, automatically via remote control interface or over a web browser. Effective protective mechanisms provide maximum robustness and failsafe performance.

Another advantage is liquid cooling, which made it possible to develop a quieter and more compact high-power amplifier than ever before. The bulk of waste heat can be dissipated with a heat exchanger, which the operator can even install outside the amplifier room to minimize air conditioning requirements and decrease operating costs. Rohde & Schwarz, a global market leader in broadcasting systems, used its decades of experience in liquid cooling systems and thoroughly tried and tested components when designing the cooling for the R&S BBL200 family.

The amplifiers are series-produced in one of the most modern plants in Europe. The award-winning Rohde & Schwarz facility offers superior manufacturing depth. Automated final test rigs ensure constant quality. The company's worldwide service network promotes trust and confidence.

The 3 kW model of the R&S BBL200 high-power amplifier family is now available from Rohde & Schwarz. The 5 kW and 10 kW models are scheduled for release in the second half of 2014.
