Latest Test and Measurement NewsHIOKI launches 3-Phase Digital Power Meters21 May 2013 - Hioki E.E. Corporation released two new 3-phase AC/DC digital power meters, the two-channel PW3336 and the three-channel PW3337, to support the power consumption and efficiency testing of electronic and industrial equipment. Both instruments can take direct-input measurements of large currents of up to 65A while maintaining measurement accuracy of 0.15%. Manufacturers of consumer electronics such as household appliances and audiovisual devices as well as industrial equipment such as servers, machine tools and large air-conditioning systems are competing to improve the energy-saving performance of their products. This drive toward energy efficiency demands power measuring equipment with a high degree of measurement precision for use in assessing energy savings, power consumption, and energy efficiency. Similar needs are present in power research in which engineers evaluate the characteristics of the electrical circuits in motors, inverters, power conditioners, and other energy-saving devices in efforts to lower power consumption. HIOKI’s two-channel PW3336 and three-channel PW3337 three-phase AC/DC digital power meters were developed in response to these stringent needs. "Economical and social changes surrounding energy have called for the need to rationalize the continued use of our natural resources as well as ensuring their effective utilization," said Hidehiko Sunohara, Manager of Power Meter Research & Development. "This has led many businesses engaged in the development of power-hungry industrial equipment and household appliances and electronics to compete fiercely so as to be the number one provider of the highest efficiency products that absolutely minimize power consumption. The new PW3336 and PW3337 three-phase power meters offer the fine precision, direct input functionality and large current sensing capabilities required to drive these rigorous development processes, especially in areas of motor, inverter and power conditioner evaluations." Both Hioki digital power measuring devices can take direct-input measurements of large currents of up to 65A while maintaining measurement accuracy of 0.15%. Used with an optional clamp sensor, the power meters can also measure up to 5000A AC. In addition to built-in harmonic analysis functionality, the PW3336 and PW3337 Power Meters provide GP-IB, LAN, D/A output and other interfaces to better accommodate a variety of testing situations.
