Latest Test and Measurement NewsCost-efficient Generation and Analysis of WLAN IEEE 802.11ac Signals up to 160 MHz28 February 2013 - Rohde & Schwarz has tailored its mid-range measuring instruments to handle WLAN signals in line with IEEE 802.11ac. Using the R&S SMBV100A and R&S FSV, manufacturers of WLAN chipsets, components and devices can now easily generate and analyze signals with 160 MHz bandwidth. New options extend the baseband of the R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator to 160 MHz, making it the only signal generator to directly support high-speed modes for WLAN IEEE 802.11ac. An external PC is not needed. In the 5 GHz ISM band, the R&S SMBV100A offers exceptional signal performance (0.44 % EVM) for 160 MHz signals. The latest generation of the field-tested R&S FSV signal and spectrum analyzer can also be equipped with a demodulation bandwidth of 160 MHz. Unmatched in the general-purpose instrument class, the analyzer can now be used to record and demodulate a WLAN IEEE 802.11ac signal in its full bandwidth of up to 160 MHz. This provides cost-conscious R&D departments with an all-in-one solution consisting of these two easy-to-use measuring instruments. The R&S SMBV100A allows developers to run receiver tests on individual chipsets, receivers and terminals. Using the R&S FSV, developers of components and modules for IEEE 802.11ac can perform spectral measurements and modulation analyses. In addition, manufacturers of smartphone components benefit from the flexible Rohde & Schwarz solutions. Both the R&S SMBV100A and the R&S FSV cover not only WLAN but also all important standards such as GSM/EDGE, 3GPP WCDMA, HSPA, LTE, NFC and Bluetooth. The new options for the R&S SMBV100A and the R&S FSV for extending the baseband to 160 MHz as well as the R&S FSV-K91ac option for measurements in line with IEEE 802.11ac will be available soon from Rohde & Schwarz.
