Debug and Trace Support for new Arm Automotive CPUs

Lauterbach ARM25 March 2024 — Lauterbach’s TRACE32 tools now also support new leading-edge Arm v9-based Automotive Enhanced (AE) CPUs: the Arm Neoverse-V3AE, Cortex-A720AE, Cortex-A520AE and Cortex-R82AE. TRACE32 support includes simultaneous debugging of the heterogeneous CPU cores as well as non-intrusive CPU trace capture. These platforms are designed to address the exponential growth of software in cars ("Software Defined Vehicle"), the increasing demand for AI in automotive applications, and fundamental changes required in product development and deployment methodologies in order to enable automakers to accelerate time to market.

The new solutions include the latest generation of safety-enabled AE processors, which are being supported by Lauterbach’s TRACE32 tools from day one. They address a range of automotive use cases spanning server class performance for autonomous and ADAS to more power efficient and real-time applications. Lauterbach’s TRACE32 provides hardware-accelerated debugging and real-time tracing of all heterogeneous Arm processors, and other cores that Arm licensees implement on their SoCs. This now includes the new leading edge AE processors, Arm Neoverse-V3AE, Cortex-A720AE, Cortex-A520AE and Cortex-R82AE.

TRACE32 tools consist of the universal PowerView debugging and tracing software as well as debug and trace accelerator modules. While Lauterbach’s intelligent PowerDebug modules provide highest download speeds and smallest response times for efficient debugging and test automation, PowerTrace real-time trace modules provide full insights of what the CPUs and other cores of an Armv9 system are doing without impacting its real-time performance in any way. Trace analysis including code coverage measurements can support bringing automotive designs to market faster, safer, and more reliably than ever.

TRACE32 enables simultaneous debugging and tracing of the Arm and other cores in an SoC; a unique capability to cover the whole system. It does not matter whether the system is SMP (Symetric Multiprocessing), AMP (Asymetric Multiprocessing), or iAMP (Integrated Asymmetrical Multiprocessing). Lauterbach's innovative iAMP debug and trace technology enables to debug multicore systems with identical CPU instruction sets in just one TRACE32 PowerView GUI.
